How challenging is it to do more than one foreign language?

I have a friend who is taking both Spanish and Italian because she wants to be a Romance Languages Major. I wouldn’t recommend taking more than one if it is not necessary though. Just out of curiosity, which languages would you want to take?

Well, I’m taking Japanese, but I absolutely love languages and would love to be able to learn others that I have an interest in, like Russian or Turkish. Foreign languages, both modern and classical, are also advantageous in archaeology (my intended career). Either way, life is short, and college is even shorter-- I want to take advantage of the great resources I have available to me at this time in my life… but without doing my GPA or social life in. So, how challenging and time-consuming does your friend find dual-language to be?

If you’re serious about learning a language, the Residential College has great intensive programs for Japanese, French, Spanish, Russian, Latin, German, and maybe others but I’m blanking. They’re intensive but also Pass/Fail if you’re in the RC, so that makes life a bit easier.

I thought about taking the intensive programs, but from what I heard they take over your life. Plus, I’m not in the RC, so no pass/fail.

You know, there are other ways to learn languages besides school.
