College of Charleston has one very unusual and beautiful campus.

Redlands ain’t too shabby, either.

Redlands ain’t too shabby, either.

There are a number of professional and opinion surveys on “Most Beautiful Campuses.” I compiled the six I could easily find (Forbes, Princeton Review, Campus Squeeze, Inside College, Structure Hub, College Admission Essay) and counted the number of times each school appeared. With the list ordered by the number of appearances, here are the top 10:

Princeton - 6 times
Pepperdine - 5 times
Notre Dame- 3 times
Scripps - 3 times
Stanford- 3 times
Swarthmore- 3 times
UC Santa Cruz- 3 times
Virginia- 3 times
Wellesley- 3 times

There are an additional 12 that are mentioned twice:

Colgate
Harvard
Hawaii - Manoa
Kenyon
Lewis and Clark
Mt. Holyoke
Sewanee/Univ South
Sweet Briar
Univ. Richmond
Univ. Cincinnati
Wagner
Yale

To my surprise, Cornell doesn’t make ANY of the 6 lists.

Red brick buildings, lots of flowers and grass and trees. As I said before, I’m not a fan of the gothic architecture thing. I don’t think it’s ugly (not by a long shot), but I prefer the clean-cut, simple look, not the over-the-top-middle-aged-gothic-architecture.

But once again, it’s a personal preference. :)

My top 3 are:
Princeton
Cornell
Pepperdine

I think the reason that Cornell didn’t make the lists is that the campus lacks some “coherence” that architects, etc. look for and is a bit chopped up by roads, etc.

Right now, the suicide-prevention fences over the bridges detract from the natural beauty of the gorges.

Those picture of Berry college were gorgeous.
I find Stanford a bit oppressive-looking.
Washington and Lee is quite charming, as is UVA.
Swarthmore is indeed quite lovely with its sparkly stone and its location in an arboretum.
Amherst is pretty, too.

I like Cal Poly, Stanford, Iowa, Indiana and Kansas – all very nice!

boston college
georgetown
cornell

This might be part of the problem lol

Pepperdine is really unmatched to me. All modern buildings and EVERYWHERE has breathtaking views overlooking the Pacific. Stunning!

How has no one mentioned Rollins College?

Pepperdine deserves a very serious mention.

Elon University, University of Richmond, Furman University, and Trinity University all are up there in my mind.

Babson’s campus is MUCH prettier than Pepperdine and Trinity (can’t speak of the others I didn’t see)! Beautiful landscape and meticulously maintained buildings/property.

Virginia Tech is absolutely gorgeous. So is UVa.

One might do well to remember that Cambridge and Oxford do not have actual campuses in the American sense. Rather, Oxbridge is composed of several individual college campuses, which are quite tiny compared to American campuses.

The most beautiful college campus is the one your child gets a full scholarship to attend. :)
