Italian is beautiful as well. Japanese is cute especially when spoken by a female.

french then italian

persian is indo-european language (stems from all european languages). people often mistake it for being 'arabic' because it does borrow the arabic manuscript, however, the language itself is different and embedded in all the indo-european languages. it sounds beautiful; like a newer version of french or something i can't quite explain it...

japanese is very nice. i think it's cute and sophisticated, polished and 'well-toned'.

as far as ugly sounding languages, well not to put anyone down, there are some that i think are absolutely gross (LoL), and i won't mention it in order not to make anyone saddened about that...

latin sounds really nice too. If you want a "different" sounding language then you can listen to Thai.

French and Spanish I think are gorgeous! Italian as well, especially when sung.

SPANISH!!!!!!!!.....especially if spoken with an accent from spain (of course) or argentina (though its sounds a little pompous).

italian is second and french seems a little overrated because it really doesnt sound that romantic when spoken. i think a french accent in english sounds more beautiful than the language itself (i love olivier martinez's accent sigh).

i'll be a maverick
HINDI!!! the world's most beautiful language!
followed (in no particular order) by Gujarati, French, Spanish, Italian, and German

Def. Japanese, and French. I think that English is nice too, but it depends on who is speaking it.

"African languages"- uhhh, theyre very different from eachother. thats like saying 'european languages' and letting it encompass russian french spanish and swedish. sorry to be anal, but... specifics? afrikaans, wolof, what?
i love spanish but i actually hate spanish from spain. i cant stand the lisp and its too stuffy for me. give me mexican spanish, the real no thrills down home language. reminds me of beer in a dirty glass loves it

Spanish, Persian, French, Russian, Czech and Swedish

Swedish? I dunno man, a lot of the Swedish I've heard isn't too pretty.

Eh, voted the only strange language (i.e. not taught in school) I know besides English, Finnish.

Chinese.

Sometimes Cantonese and Shanghainese are incredibly harsh and jarring to the ears--but they're the eastern equivalents of Boston and New York accents when emotions are running high.

But the clear, unaccented cadences of the Chinese language are unrivaled in their tonalities and sheer subleties of meaning, where one syllable could change the meaning of a speech in wild and dangerous ways.

It's not the bastardized "ching chook" of old films and prejudiced ridicule. With twenty syllables, properly intonated, one can describe the beauty of a swan in flight, or landscape, or the passage of moonlight that illuminates the fierce yearning one has for home, reflected in frost.

Mmmm.

that's it. you all have obviously forgotten about gaelic

SANSKRIT all the way !!!!!

but I like Japanese too

Akash, I thought Indian language is the best.:)

Though Sanskrit is similar

British English?

wow someone missed that joke - sanskrit is a dead language no one knows how it was spoken when it was in use we only have the written form.

northrams thats not exactly correct. We do know how it was spoken when it was in use as it uses the same script that we use in wrting Hindi, which is thriving

And trust me,its really lyrical

I love speaking Russian, it rules

hey guys, if you got to this website, you can listen to samples of every language taught at my university...they have samples of virtually every language, even old frisian and old english. so, if you want to know what something sound slike, jus listen!

nb, not all of those are complete programmes and the list is not complete, some are just one course, for example old frisian

everything is in dutch, but you'll recognise the language names...

listen to dutch for fun....

oh and all sentneces say "Leyden is the place to study languages" (yes, it's part of a promotional site...

I'd have to vote for French- it's romantic, elegant, fluid, rhythmic... and just sexy. ;)

And when people say Persian... do you mean Farsi? Because I didn't think there was simply "Persian," because Persia refers to the area of Iran, and in Iran they speak Farsi. Right?

I'd say Italian is a close second to French, though.
