"most important activity" essay

WHY does Columbia give us so little space for this essay?! It is incredibly difficult to construct an eloquent, passionate, and coherent response in a space barely long enough for one sentence! Is anyone else having this problem? If so, how are you solving it? I assume they discourage including a longer response in the 'Additional Information' section, as they seem so testy about the submission of extra materials; does anybody know? I'd really appreciate some advice.

Overall, I'd say the Columbia application is by far the most annoying and least user-friendly of all the apps I'm struggling to complete. There are so many places where I've had to compromise the quality of my response for the sake of grammatical accuracy, for example in the 'interests' section in which I had to leave out the names of several of my favorite books so there would be room for a comma between each title. The whole setup seems so unnecessarily rigid. Ayyyyyy..

Haha. You're right. You have company there -- my son said the same thing last year as he was filling out all of his applications.

Perhaps it's a test of our ability to be succinct -- a great challenge for me in particular! LOL
