Hey guys, I got a question, esp to those got in EA. So you have a short answer (in the common app) and a long answer (the supp essay) for the most meaninful EC, right? How long is your short answer? Someone in the Harvard board said his was 500 words. But that sounds more like the length of the supp essay to me. Anybody?

yeah, mine was only like 150 words or so. On the Yale website - they said 3-4 sentences should suffice

really? 3-4 sentences seems too short :) I already had a 180-word answer but am not sure if that's "enough" for the common app. Anyone else?

I've heard of people who left it blank and got in.

I think mine was 4 sentences. it was short, that's all I remember. I used two diff. activities for the s.a. and the essay.....

I'm one of those people who left it blank and got in. ;)

I have 160-170 words, and maybe I will add some sentences to 180.

But remember there is the same question in MIT app, and there it is said to be 100 words

"Someone in the Harvard board said his was 500 words"

that was me. and yes, that was for the supplement.

I wrote 8 sentences for Yale (because it was a hand-written application) and 19 sentences for other Common App colleges (because I typed it on the fillable PDF). The length won't really matter because I'm pretty sure that some people who hand-write their essays and can only fit 100 or so words wil be accepted, and others who write more on the PDF or online app might not be accepted.

Edit: I filled out the Common App again for RD schools because I found so many mistakes on the one I did for Yale.
