I'm having trouble choosing. As you all don't know my personality so you can't help me really in choosing a school, on a more basic level, which of these schools is the most prestigious?

Rice
Bowdoin
Davidson
UCLA
Carleton
Emory

Among the general public, UCLA just because of sports. Among academics, I’m assuming it depends on department.

Rice and UCLA are probably the most well known. Next I would say Emory, then Davidson. Haven’t heard of the other 2 so I would put them last.

Of those schools, I would make Emory, UCLA, and Rice my top choices. Have you visited them? I visited Davidson and didn’t really like. The Emory campus is really nice though, and they’ve recently built new freshman dorms. Never been to UCLA but who doesn’t want to live in CA.

Academic prestige - Carleton is somewhere near the top (talking in terms of Master’s program recognition etc.)

a lot of it is geographical.

In the northeast Bowdoin would be near the top but you see one of the previous posters had never heard of it.

Rice and Emory have some degree of national prestige, at least within academia and HR

UCLA is the most nationally known, in my opinion.

Choose Rice or UCLA.

Do you say “prest-ee-gious” or “prest-idge-ous”?

I say the former and I think it’s funny when people say it the other way. =]

Yes, this post was very necessary and helpful.

I have to agree with hilsa, except i say prest-ee-gious, never thought of it that way though. Thank you kindly!

prest-ee-gious

rice and bowdoin by far

RICE…is ranked 17th in the country, they have a 80+ percent in top 10 percent, and have higer sat score ranges than all the schools you listed. Its a great school with a great community, and has over 80+ percent getting into grad schools, many go on to the top grad programs…

(My opionon may be biased, because I want to get off Emory’s Waitlist) lol…but if I was accepted/rejected at/from Emory, I’d might say Rice…

Rice or Emory or UCLA. Your call.
