Most Recruited Schools for Mgmt. Consulting

What undergraduate schools are the most highly recruited for entry-level consulting jobs in companies such as McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.

Which is more recruited, Stern or UVA?

I don't know necessarily about recruitment, but I've heard hardly anyone from Stern goes into consulting...they all want banking. Again, I don't know if that's because the lack of recruiters or just the overall mindset.

I heard the same. One reason is their mindset. All the finance majors there pretty much want to do i-banking, and there aren't many management majors. However, there's also the fact that at most undergraduate schools (even top business schools), recruiting from consulting firms is generally on the low side because they are mainly looking for MBA associates. So Stern isn't the only school that doesn't have so many going into consulting. If you look at employment profiles for many top business schools, you'll see i-banks and the Big Four but few consulting firms. (The exception is Wharton, a feeder to McKinsey.)

Harvard, Penn, Stanford, Duke MIT and Michigan (surprisingly) do quite well at getting into McK. Not sure about other firms.

i'd be better off at uva though?

someone should assemble a list of which consulting firm recruits where like the old thread that showed where all the i banks recruit at..that would be interesting

i would really be able to use something like that, if anyone has that knowledge and expertise, please do share

just because a firm recruits at a school doesn't mean much.
it's the number that actually get job offers that matters.

maybe this will help...

well you could say it means a little bit because it gives you the opportunity to network on campus

Mean's a lot more than a firm that DOESN'T recruit at your campus.

Besides, specific firm recruitment numbers aren't really widely available, only a few schools are going to have them for everyone to look at.

If a firm recruits at your school, and you can get that first interview, it's entirely possible for you to get the job, and that's all that really matters.

yeah pretty much i agree with ya dcfca

I'm sure Harvard does pretty well placing people into BCG...the founder/CEO of BCG is a Harvard grad...(undergrad or HBS...I'm not sure)

Harvard is the top school for consulting at Bain

founder is HBS

My consulting firm - not a big 6 but moving up the vault rankings quickly - has a somewhat surprising list for this year's target schools.

Brown
Caltech
Columbia
CBS
Florida A&M
Harvard
HBS
Harvey Mudd/Claremont Colleges
Stanford (likely in the winter)
Wharton
Wesleyan
Yale

Obviously, one name on that list surprised me but the rest seemed fairly open-minded.

Wesleyan has its share of scholar/athlete/future business types. They're a tight-knit minority, part of the fabric of "Diveristy University". As implied, a lot of them occupy the frats that still occupy the center of campus (one of the few NESCAC colleges that still allows them.) And, they form the backbone of what little "school spirit" does exist, attending each other's meets, supporting each other's teams and actually (gasp!) following professional sports in the media. A lot of them major in Economics -- a Wesleyan strength - but, there are philosophy majors, language majors and other majors as well. Bill Belichick, Eric Mangini and Jed Hoyer (Class of `96 and assistant General Manager of the Boston Red Sox) are part of that traditon.

well the name that surprised you, which im guessing is florida a&m is there most likely because it is a HBCU

denzera, do you work at mercer?

All the Ivies plus the usual suspects (Duke, Stanford, MIT, Amherst, etc) all do very well.
