Mount Holyoke College V.S Rutgers University

Hi, everyone! I am currently a senior student from Shanghai, China. I got into Mount Holyoke College and Rutgers University (RU with honors and scholarship). I want to choose biochemistry or pre-medicine as major and I am not sure which school is better for me? Hope you can give me some advice. Thank you very much!!!

These two schools have very different environments. Have you researched them? I don’t know much about Rutgers but I’m very familiar with Mount Holyoke and can answer questions if you want. My D attends and has several friends who are pre-med bio majors. I also know there is a fairly sizeable Chinese population there if that matters to you.

But seriously… they are very different!

Rutgers- large urban university. Co-ed. Sports and frats.

MoHo- small liberal arts college in a bucolic setting. All women (although there are free busses to the surrounding colleges so it’s not difficult to meet boys). No frats, not a big party school.

Large universities vs. small LACs is a topic of much discussion here on CC. Do a search. At a small LAC you have much smaller classes and more personal attention from professors, who teach all their classes (as opposed to TAs teaching many classes at large universities.) Mount Holyoke also offers all students a stipend to fund an internship after their sophomore year, which is pretty great. Hopefully someone who knows about Rutgers can chime in.

Personally I would vote for Mount Holyoke, but I am biased!!! I think it really comes down to what you want out of your college experience.

Hi @RoxyMy, I a prospective sophomore of MHC of Fall 2015!! Congrasts first!!! I personally prefer MHC because that’s right school where I can find my place and become better. I agree with @staceyneil . My first year was in a huge state uni and to be honest, that’s totally miserable. I sat in a 400+ classroom with no communication with my classmates and professor (because we have 10+ TAs). And I really don’t like TAs teaching classed because most of them even don’t know how to teach. That’s why I think LACs are better. I don’t know much about Rutgers and I suggest you to attend the admitted students program( usually in April/ June) if you can.
