In this forum, you're going to get responses from a lot of people who are biased towards Mount Holyoke. I dislike U Rochester, greatly, just because it is IN Rochester, lol. It also doesn't offer a big sense of community.

However, your education is what you make of it, and these schools are relatively on par with one another. Visit and THEN choose. Please don't have others choose for you.

See if you can get in contact from students who are studying chem at either school, and see what they have to say. The more convincing, the better.

My chem teacher went to U Rochester, actually, and ended up transferring out. He said the resources there were great, but the sciences were so popular that the classes were huge and it was hard to get lab space when he needed it.

Last year our child had the same choice as you. She choose MHC and has no regrets. MHC has a great reputation for chemistry and there are many alums who went on to get PhD's.
Our daughter is a computer science type. U of R had a fancier CS building, but at MHC the department chair spent over a half hour discussing the department, the curriculum, and our child and her aspirations. I can't speak for the chemistry department, but I'm sure that the atmosphere is similar.
Good luck.

Another thought - U of R has an open curriculum and MHC does not, so if you went to Rochester and didn't like it, your transfer options might be more limited.
