Mount Holyoke ED for fall 2009!

is anyone else here applying ED to MHC?? i completely fell in love with the school after I visited!

Hi, Kathleen. Although I'm already an undergraduate at Mount Holyoke, I was looking through your post and noticed that you were thinking of applying to Smith ED, as well. I just wanted to let you know that you can only apply to one school Early Decision, as it is a binding process. I also read your thread about differences between Smith and MHC -- there really are not that many.

Student Body? Well, the good thing about MHC is we have a handful of people from many different backgrounds. It's not possible to use a certain set of adjectives to describe all 2000+ women at the school. I can tell you, though, that the students here are motivated, supportive, goal-oriented, and intelligent. Once you find your niche, your one group of friends that will be your backbone for all four years, it's like you've found a family which makes it feel so much more like a home away from home. Sit in on a class discussion at Mount Holyoke. You will fall in love with the things the women in the class say-- you will want to be one of them. Same goes for Amherst and Smith, though, so you might want to try those, too.

And about financial aid? Mount Holyoke is pretty good at financial aid but not awesome. It is not easy paying tuition for anybody. The school doesn't meet the FAFSA EFC because it is a private school. It does, however, consider what you write on your CSS Profile. I know someone who's household income is less than $30,000 and all of the years we've been here, her tuition hasn't gone higher than $5,000. $5,000 is pretty expensive if you're only making 30k, but you can negotiate your fin aid package. When I was accepted, I contested my package and got $10,000 extra in grants. Good luck with college admissions! I will be happy to answer any questions :).

heyy butterfly

i was considering Smith for ED but after i did research on MHC i realized that it was a better fit for me academically and socially. Thanks for ur input!

Yay, I'm so glad! Hope I see you next year!
