Hello Roderick,

This is not a traditional cinema studies program. Learn more about the Major and Minor at <a href=“About - Media and Cultural Studies - Macalester College”>http://www.macalester.edu/academics/mcs/about/

Media texts are commonly known as a media product or piece of communication. A faculty response to your question about media texts is, “the reason we talk about “media texts” is to emphasize that our department asks questions about meaning, and does not just study the particular form that the media take. In other words, we assume that the media have a role in shaping, creating, and transforming forms of meaning, and do not just circulate as commodities within it. The addition of the term texts is intended to emphasize this point.”
