Thanks for all of your feedback. My daughter successfully moved in yesterday. It tool 4 trips to Walmart but she’s set. I was surprised that there was only one dresser to share and that there was really no room for an extra chair, bean bag, or really anything. Also the tile on the floor was cracked and missing in parts so a rug is a necessity! There were metal poles in some of the closets which allowed them to raise their beds about 6 inches - which gave space for some under the bed drawers to put more of the clothing. And her closet was about half the size of the others so that was a good thing! Now, the true hard part begins.

only one dresser? That’s bizarre. My S always has had one dresser per student. You should check with the school.

There is variation in the rooms in all the dorms. Sounds like your daughter didn’t get too lucky. But hope she likes her roommate! That’s more important!

One thing about roommate neatness / slob etiquette: if each person confines their mess to their own side of the room, it seems to work out. Someone is considered a slob when their stuff extends all over the room…

Hm is your daughter’s room exceptionally small? I can’t think of any other reason for there to be only on dresser. It could be that your daughter is living in some room that was just converted into a double/dorm room this year. One way or another I’d tell her to contact FM about it and see what they can do about it. They should have some extra furniture somewhere and it’s possible they just forget. On the other hand with the college running out of room to house first-years it’s also possible they ran out of furniture.
My closet last year didn’t have a rod to hang my clothes on because it wasn’t a room the year before but it was fixed within a minute when I asked FM.

We looked at a number of other rooms in Norris and they all only had one built in dresser. No way to put another in the room either because the dresser and bookcases are built right in. Believe me, we would have if we could have! The under bed dresser works fine.

And there’s really no way to expand her closet unless they knock out the stairwell!

On a positive note, she’s totally fine with it, has a great roomie, and got all of her things organized and put away before I left. That should last about a day, and as you mention above, as long as she keeps her stuff on her side…

Oh I forgot that Norris has only one Dresser. My bad, I didn’t realize that.

well, i have heard that while Norris probably has the worse rooms, they have a strong community due to so many first years, and so far that definitely seems true!

My son and his roomie each had a dresser in Norris. But the main thing is that they liked each other. It was a very strong community.
