At long last, I've gotten in to the MPA programs at both NYU Wagner and Rutgers SPAA. I am looking to go into public finance, and realize that Wagner has the better program. I am wondering, though, how much of an advantage a degree from Wagner will really give me over a degree from SPAA?

While I haven't yet decided whether I will end up working in public finance for a public or private organization, I would like both to be options. Will my only chance to work for a private firm come with a degree from NYU, or will good grades and internships while at Rutgers allow me to find work in the private sector, too?

The only reason this is even an issue is because I am eligable for in-state tuition at Rutgers and did not receive aid from NYU, meaning I will either be virtually debt-free with one, and heavily in-debt with the other.

My hunch is that if I do well at either school, I should be able to find a good public sector job afterwards. However if I want to go private, I would be at a major disadvantage choosing Rutgers over NYU.

Anyone with knowledge or experience have any insight? Thanks!
