MPulse 2010

How have decisions been given out thus far? Stricly email or letters as well? Especially for the wait list?

@thisismegan: so have you heard anything yet? Our waitlist email asked him to confirm that he’s still interested and that by March 15 he’ll either get in (if openings occur) or will be sent an official waitlist letter.

thisismegan: I sent in a dvd and I’m still waiting to hear too. All this talk is making me nervous! But hopefully we’ll both get letters with something good in them? I’m sending good vibes to the post office.

Thanks MomCares! We really had no expectations at all. Dody has joined the FB group and is answering questions. It sounds like most of these kids have been wanting to go for a long time. I think we are still in shock! :D

I also sent in a dvd and am waiting to hear…god this is so nerve wracking!!!

^Sorry for the delay in reply…
Yes, I’m currently a BFA theatre major at NYU, but I’m transferring to UM as a BFA theatre major next fall  I think a lot of the people went on to do theatre in college- I know people at Butler, Baldwin-Wallace, Denison, and Western Michigan, and more people are going through the college audition process this year. Another person is transferring into the Michigan program with me next year, though she’s a cross campus transfer and will be starting as a freshman :)

No, I have not heard anything yet. Just wish they were as quick with the rejections as with the acceptances is all.

Very exciting, monologue!

Many thanks to Dody for the FB heads-up that logistics may be a bit different than in past years. Guess I"ll be wise to wait a few more weeks for the official information before booking any travel.

We want DD to experience the maximum independence from mom and dad with MPULSE since as I understand it that (painful as it is) will be no small part of the learning (for us too) from a college summer.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting! It sounds like there are so many great options for summer learning that whatever happens I know you’ll have an amazing summer.

MomCares, thanks so much for the good vibes  Im glad to know im not the only one waiting. This is a great program and everyone who attends im sure will learn so much I’m sure. Can’t wait to see what this summer holds for me!

I forgot to mention- of the people who were in the Mpulse MT program in 2008- I think almost all of them are at BFA programs too. There’s a handful of them here @ NYU, some at CCM, some at Ithaca…

I may need to go over to the theatre majors’ threads to find out more, but kiddo auditioned for musical theatre and the theatre and drama academy. No word yet regarding MT, but she just received email acceptance to TDA. She is really, really hoping for MT…but would like some more information about TDA. Specifially, for a junior who’s hoping to audition for MT-based programs, would this be a valuable option, or would she be better served by other options she has for summer (CCM and BAA)? Experiences with TDA? Etc!

Son just received an acceptance email for TDA. Any other TDA people out there? It seems like a lot of talented MT kids are going.

Also, if anyone went through the TDA program in the past and has any insights, please PM or post. Thanks!

What is TDA?

TDA = Theatre and Drama Academy. It’s another of the MPulse summer programs, 2 weeks in length, also auditioned.

Thanks Mommafrog - just trying to get the lingo!

My daughter has started a FB group for MPulse TDA - Dody told her she will also join the group as a resource. DD attended last summer and will be able to answer any questions your S/D may have - she is also familiar with the MTW since her brother attended last year. Many of the kids in TDA (only 18 last year) were also singers and into MT…

FB MPulse groups:
MPulse Theatre and Drama Academy 2010
MPulse Vocal Arts Institute 2010

Just curious – Is the MPulse TDA usually smaller than the MT Workshop?

Can any past or present MPulsers give us an idea of what to send with our kids this summer? (for example: what kind of shoes? What is the weather like? etc) Having a s who is not very forthcoming with details, I am hoping we can get some of the girls and/or parents to share what is going on during their stay! Thanks in advance!

It gets hot in Ann Arbor in the summer - so casual summer clothes are what they will wear most of the time - with flip-flops probably the shoes of choice! It would be a good idea to bring sneakers, too, I would think. And dress shoes for the final show. There will be info about this sent, I’m sure - but for the show, the guys wear dress pants and a solid color button-down shirt (correct me if I’m wrong, more recent MPulsers!) . They do spend a fair amount of time in air conditioned classrooms, so a sweatshirt is probably also a good idea.

Some very detailed info came last year, with lots of information that was very helpful. I am sure it is headed our way this year tool

One of the things that my daughter brought last year (which was suggested by a former MPulser) was a small room fan…many of them had them and they proved to be very helpful.

They absolutely can’t bring cell phones…and amazingly none of the MTW kids brought one…they did have a phone in their room that they could use to make calls home, etc, but needed a “phone card” to do so.

The schedule could surely be very different this year, but they did go swimming 2 times last year…so a swimsuit was in order.

My daughter wished for more dance clothes than she had with her…so she could do laundry less (sent her with a roll of quarters and some detergent). They dance every day…and last year they also did some running for fitness as well. We mailed our D running shoes to her, as she didn’t think to bring any…flip flops were definitely the thing!

They don’t have time to spend much money, but they did have an afternoon in “town” and there was a little snack shop in the dorms…so a little spending money was good.

If your son hasn’t found the Facebook group yet, it is listed under “MPulse MT 2010” lots of kids already on there…and generally besides my D, a few alums will chime in with thoughts on what to bring, etc…

Hope that helps a little…
