MS Accounting/Finance

I am an MBA graduate major in finance from India. I am planning to take up GMAT for further studies in USA. I am planning to do MS in finance/ Accounting. Do i need to take up GMAT or GRE? What should be the minimum score to get into any of the good universities? Does MS in Accounting alone helps me in getting a job or do i need to pursue CPA further. Please do help me. I appreciate your response.

It seems almost redundant to get your MBA in finance, and then get MS in Accounting. I understand where you are coming from because I just started an MBA last Spring and I’m switching to Masters in Accounting in the Fall.

With a MBA in finance, it may be beneficial to save you time and try to get the CPA without the MS in Accounting. You may be close to the education requirements given your Finance concentration. I don’t know which “state” you would go by since you are international, but each state is different.

If you are dead-set on the MS in Acct go for it. Most schools use the GMAT. Some I have seen use the GRE but for business schools I think it is mostly GMAt. You may also have to take the TOEFL which I belive is for people with English as a second language.

I got into my school with GMAT of 550, but most decent schools will be looking for 580+
The MS in Accounting will help you get an entry level job (although entry level accounting jobs can be very lucrative). The reason is because accounting firms recruit from college campuses. Some programs allow you to get your CPA while in school, and if you at least show you have taken/passed some of the exams, it will help get your foot in the door.

Hope this helps - someone correct me if I’m wrong.
