MS at UCM vs CS Long Beach

Daughter is accepted into the Mechanical Engineering Department at both UC Merced and Cal State Long Beach. Still waiting on a few others. But which school do you think is better for her? Could give specifics about her but was more interested in getting your opinion without any bias, other than the usual preference for their own schools. Size and location are the two most obvious, but I was looking for specifics about the details.

Hope this isn’t too late for you.

I’m from UCM and I haven’t had the privilege to visit CSU Longbeach. I am an engineering major here and I find the attention by the faculty, availability of the professors, and new facilities simply awesome.

Size of the campus is small. We’re talking about a ten minute walk from one end to the other. However, small doesn’t mean bad. Your daughter wouldn’t have to worry about being late to classes since they’re all in the same area. Everything is within walking distance, which is great when you have to juggle a couple classes + extracurricular activities.

The location of the campus is in the middle of no where. You have to ride 5 or so minutes from the main street before you actually hit the campus. This can have its advantages, especially if you want to concentrate on your studies. However, I can see how it can definitely damper some spirits.

Feel free to ask any more questions should they arise.
