MS in Finance. Is it worth doing?

ello everyone!

I am facing the biggest dilemma. I am from India with a MBA(Finance) and 3 years of work experience. I was working as an Insurance underwriter with an Indian company. I am in USA for the past 1.5 year on H4 visa (This is a dependent visa and prohibits the person from working in US)

I have been thinking of pursuing Masters of Science in finance. My biggest concern is whether I will be able to secure a job after completion. Will it be a value for all the amount I would be spending? I believe that the Ivy league colleges would be rather difficult to get into, so which are the tier II colleges that I should target. I am currently based in California, so if I have to find out about placement record of a particular university, where I cannot go in person, which is the best way to find out about that? How can I get in touch with students who are currently enrolled there? Since I am an international student, would that jeopardize my job prospects

I am not interested in Investment banking. I am more interested in Corporate finance and would like to have some guidance about the opportunities available in this stream.

I would really appreciate if anybody can help me out.

Thanks

Nami, so what do you think that Investment Bankers do?

They do:

Corporate Finance

Hey John,

From that I meant , I am not interested in typically dealing in Derivatives, equity etc. I would be more interested in the job of a Treasury Manager or Credit Manager. But I am confused whether to pursue MSF or MAcc for this. Please advise.

You have an MBA, I don’t see a MS Finance adding any value. How about accounting?

Actually thats what is confusing me. How is it typically like doing a Master of Science in Accounting? Which university would be good and what could be the job prospects?

If IBs had stuck to just doing that (corp fin) we would not be in this recession.

Any more insights and thoughts on this?
