MS in Marketing vs MBA

Hi everyone,

I'm a senior at Indiana aspiring to work in marcomm. I'm curious about the cost/benefit of pursuing an MSIMC instead of an MBA. I'd like to work in account management at an integrated firm and would like to get an idea of what would be more valuable, and best prepare me, in my career.

I realize I'd need to work for at least a few years before pursuing an MBA, however, do b-schools offering MS degrees in marketing typically offer admission to recent graduates?

My reason for pursuing a master's is to further differentiate myself in the communications world. My major is journalism with an ad/pr emphasis with minors in marketing and business. While I have a pretty good understanding of the "language," I feel a higher degree from a business school will help with perceptions on the other side of the table so to speak.

As reference, my stats are:

3.3 GPA
Haven't yet taken the GMAT
Excellent letters from professors whom held very high positions in advertising and marketing
Internship experience at one of the state's largest IMC agencies in accounts
Decent extracurricular experience, nothing special

Some of the schools I am considering:

Loyola University Chicago- MSIMC
Northwestern- MSIMC. Similar to MBA programs, they prefer experienced candidates.
NYU- MSIMC

I am also considering strategic communications programs at USC, NYU, Northwestern, Syracuse and Texas.

I guess my overarching question is this: Is pursuing an MSIMC directly after undergraduate as opposed to waiting for an MBA going to be beneficial? Thanks for hanging in there through the long post.
