How challenging is the engineering curriculum at MSU? I would like to major in mechanical engineering but am looking for a program that stands out and has a good reputation with employers. Are students more studious or party people?
Have you been accepted to the Honors College or do you plan to apply to it? That will determine what students you will be around. The College of Eng. recommends students live in the same dorm so that you are together. They seem to want a learning community. Good luck!
@Mathgeek78 my daughter was also accepted to the college of engineering at State. She has the same concerns. Did you visit campus at all? We went to a college of engineering presentation at MSU and it was impressive - including the “core” concept - living amongst the other engineering students. She has a few acceptances and is trying to sort it all out - like you, she has the idea that MSU is a party school ingrained in her brain
My son is a freshman there in engineering. He lives in the engineering dorms. Loves it and is working with hatch the startup putting together a plan for his business. He is studying chemical engineering… it’s a great school and provides you with great resources… less stressful I hear from UM but if you can’t maintain a 2.9 after sophomore year you can’t continue
I personally know three MSU engineering graduates from early classes of 1990s and 2015. Two grads is ME and one is EE. One elder had many many successful jobs with big tech firms and is now a managing partner at an IP law firm. The other elder is an enginner at U of M. The younger one is an engineer at Caterpillar.
Let me further add MSU has a large engineering network and even a bigger network throughout the US and the world. Good luck to you wherever your path takes you… Remember to never ever go into debt for any degree. Your first job is just a stepping stone to a better job. A $300-$500 a month debt would go great into a nicer apartment, a new car or even saving for a new house.
