MSU Scholarships/Financial Aid stuff

When and how does MSU award scholarships after you've been accepted? Do you get mailed notifications? Do you log in with your same MSU ID and password to check? Or do you create a new account with your MSU PIN (I wasn't sure if you create the account now to check aid notices, or if you can only make the account after you pay your deposit and tell MSU you're attending for sure).

I have the same question about financial aid. You won't hear about financial aid until next year after you submit the FAFSA, right?

Also, is the due date for submitting the deposit and enrolling May 1st like most other colleges?

Thanks very much for all the help.

Also, it says “Submit your Advanced Enrollment Deposit (AED) within four weeks of receiving your admitted student packet.” Whaaa? I thought you had until May 1st T_T

I kinda asked this in the last post, but can you make your MSU Net ID and e-mail without paying the deposit?

MSU awards scholarships sporadically. You will be mailed info - it won’t be posted on stuinfo online until much later. I got a basic acceptance letter in October, and then following that I received an honors college letter that stated what scholarships I was awarded in mid-November (but it could come earlier or later, depending). Also, since you applied before November 1 you get automatic consideration for all MSU scholarships. And even after I confirmed attendance at MSU, I received another scholarship the July before I came to MSU.

Same goes for financial aid…if you submit FAFSA by the end of January, your fin. aid package will be mailed to you on a rolling basis sometime in March. I also received an online notification of financial aid that you could access it through stuinfo with your netID. The financial aid will also list the scholarships that you were awarded.

The due date for submitting the deposit is May 1st; despite the 4 weeks listed you just have to pay it before May 1st. I’d recommend you pay your deposit early though. If you decide on going elsewhere in the meantime, you have until May 1st to withdraw your acceptance and receive a full refund of your deposit.

^ Thanks. What are the benefits of paying early? I didn’t want to pay any deposits before I heard back from my first choice college.

Also, should I set up my Net ID now? Will I be able to do it without paying the deposit?

By paying your deposit early I figure that it just gets it out of the way…it’s completely up to you though. If MSU is your 2nd choice or a definite option, I’d submit the deposit. If MSU is just one of many schools you are considering, then don’t bother until you hear back from all/most of your schools.

As far as setting up your netID, I have no idea. I can’t remember what I did, it’s been 2 years. But you probably can set it up now even if you haven’t paid the deposit. I’d give it a shot just to see what happens.
