Hey CC,

I'm a Freshman SCM major at Michigan State University, I've studied abroad in Costa Rica at MSU and my next study abroad will be in HK (hopefully). I'll be applying to HKUST or City. But I have three concerns that I'm hoping you guys could help me out with.

1st. So as I said above, I'm black, and going to HK...I'd be so different from everyone else. Which university (between City and HKUST) would I just have a better social life? Like I don't want to just hang with other internationals, I want some Chinese and HK friends. lol. Which one of those two universities has the more friendly students? (I guess...lol)

2nd. Simple question. HKUST is located right on the coast but far from everything. While City is right in the middle of the city. Which university (in terms of location) is better?

3rd. So MSU does not offer Cantonese -___-. So first question, should I take Mandarin just to know some Chinese before I go just to know some type of Chinese? Or should I not waste any money and just wing it, and take Cantonese at one of these Universities?
And my second question, at which one of those universities will I have an easier time at if I don't know any Cantonese while there?

I know going to HK with no knowledge of Cantonese or Mandarin sounds extremely dumb, but I recently just studied abroad in Costa Rica with no Spanish skills at all and did fine. Actually made a lot of friends.

But anyway help me out people. Thanks!
