mominpa1 - I have no direct experience with PCLO but know through others whose kids have performed there that is an amazing opportunity for those selected to perform. Very competitive auditions. Hopefully someone more in the know will respond as well.

There are so many options out there - hard to sort it all out. Best of luck to your S as he heads out on the audition circuit (again!)

At Coastal Carolina, we have had students doing summer stock work at numerous places including (off the top of my head)…

-Cortland Reperatory Theatre
-Ohio Light Opera
-Maine State Music Theatre
-Florida Reperatory Theatre
-Arts Center of Coastal Carolina
-Theatre By The Sea
-Walnut Street Theatre

And plenty more, but those are some of the big ones that I know tend to hire college kids (quite a few from CCU have worked/interned/had apprenticeships there).

mominpa1, PCLO is an excellent regional theatre. They do hire some students for the summer for their ensemble roles. They must be 18+ and be trained singers and dancers. There is usually an audition application on their website. The auditions this year are Feb. 10, 11, and 12. Those from out of town are usually scheduled on the Saturday but you’ll have to be there for the weekend if you get a callback because those are held on Sunday. I know a few kids who already have auditions scheduled so you’d have to check and see if the schedule has closed. They do give preference to local kids. If your student is represented, agent submissions are accepted by Telsey and those auditions will be scheduled the week after the above dates. If they are an Equity member, the EPAs will be held Feb. 1 and 2.

Students I know who have worked at PCLO have had a wonderful experience. It’s one of the more competitive summer positions to get. There was a mom here on CC who had a D at PCLO a few years ago. I cannot remember who it was, though, or if she’s still around. Susan, do you recall who that was?

Mu D has friends who have gotten summer jobs at these in addition to ones mentioned above, and I am sure there are lots more. They all have websites. Some summer stock theaters also go to Strawhats, SETC, NETC, Midwest Auditions[held at Webster] to name a few :

AlwaysAMom, I think the person you are referring to is theatermom, whose D spent one summer at PCLO back when she was in college (has since graduated). She no longer posts on CC. Also, MTgrlsmom’s D worked at PCLO last summer. Her D is still in college. She doesn’t post much on CC anymore, but likely could be contacted through CC.

My d was cast at the PCLO last summer and had such a great experience there! It is certainly a wonderful place for a college student to work for the summer.

Kaysmom! A belated congratulations to your daughter! She must be very talented!! May I ask what year in school she was? This year I’m doing Strawhats as well as a few other auditions here and there, and I was thinking about auditioning for PCLO in my later years of college after I have a little bit more fine tuning, seeing as the auditions are so competitive. Just curious to see what year she was! :)

My D has had the good fortune to work at PCLO for the past two summers. She is a senior this year and would love to do it again. It’s especially convenient for her because she lives in Pittsburgh, but the cast and ensemble members come from all over.

My D worked at PCLO after her freshman year, doing Peter Pan with Cathy Rigby. She didn’t audition there after sophomore year (was in a show at her school that weekend). She was cast there again this past summer, after her junior year, and actually went on tour with PCLO’s production fo Miss Saigon (three weeks in Pittsburgh, three weeks in Toronto and a week in Schenectady, NY in conjunction with Dancap productions). She has LOVED all of her time at PCLO. Extremely professional company, has made great friends, well taken care of, earned her equity card with Peter Pan, made good money. She’d LOVE to be cast there this summer, but their season doesn’t look promising for her type, so she may not audition.

(Thanks, Kaysmom! I expect to see your beautiful D in the dance program this weekend at school!)
It was extra fun for my D to have 3 classmates together in the CLO show last summer, although now she also keeps in touch with new friends from that show. But it sounds like it was a rigorous week of rehearsals!
