Although not summerstock, it is a summer concert, and my D was recommended by a director for a request to take part in a concert musical staged reading with Aaron Lazar (and others) performing Carousel.
She will be the nasty "Miss Snow". The funny thing is (and it appears to be merely a coincidence) is that she did this role 7 years ago with Aaron Lazar (as Billy Bigelow)at a local regional theater. That was the year she started to get interested in CCM, and it is so great to be able to chat with Aaron about the fact that she is attending soon! She is getting lots of good advice, but mostly is enamored of watching him perform! What an opportunity!

Tashmu....that is a very cool experience for your daughter. Good for her! And it is neat that she has come full circle with this show and with working with Aaron Lazar. Aaron is from my home town, by the way. Good luck to your daughter.

I will be working with Lees-Mcrae Summer Theater doing Damm Yankees, Showtune and West Side Story.

Thanks, soozievt, I think that means a town in NJ? I always think of you as being from Vt because of your screen name.
And yes, it is really neat (does that adjective date us?) that she gets a chance to come full circle. She is definitely learning alot being able to watch him, and Rebecca Eichenberger, the other Broadway concert singer, and ask questions about acting, etc. He has very specific ideas about what training to get, btw, specifically about acting traing, and the three kids in the show are hanging on his every word!
I forgot to add that this concert is at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and of course with Keith Lockhart conducting. So all around, a wonderful opportunity. I used to live around the corner from the Symphony, so it is in my old neighborhood of pre-kid, so that is fun to visit again, too.
Congrats to theaterbrat and all the others on their summerstock productions!

Theaterbrat.....good for you! Break a leg!

Tashmu....I did look up this production before you just posted. I also saw elsewhere that a boy who attends my D's theater camp is in it with your D (initials AK). I used to live in Boston for six years too! This is a very exciting opportunity for your daughter. My daughter has performed with six different symphony orchestras and the experience is quite something to sing on stage with that kind of back up and also in a major venue. This is going to be so great for her but also you can kvell when you watch (I assume you are going to Boston for this....I actually don't know what state you live in and maybe you live in that area anyway?).

Yes, I do live in Vermont and have been in this state for 26 years, having moved here after college and graduate school in Boston. But I grew up in a suburb of Phila. in South Jersey.....in Aaron Lazar's hometown. I lived there from infancy through the time I left for college and still return as that is where my family is located.

Hi Soozie, Thanks for the info about the boy, where did you see the info about him? Anyway,I did live in various Boston neighborhoodsfor 14 years, and now live north of Boston, and will definitely be heading into Boston for the next few days, and we just heard that the kids will also be playing in Tanglewood next month for another venue, same concert.
It is quite something for these kids to be not only visiting these two venerable concert sites but attending as performers is really pretty 'mazing!
We're all pinching ourselves.

Tashmu....keep pinching. Sometimes it is hard to believe when you see your child in such a venue!

I do not wish to state here where I saw that this boy was in the same concert. It was not an article or publicity. He posted about it on another forum using his real name and I do not feel right in leading CC readers to his name. Enjoy the shows! Tell your D to break a leg and to enjoy being on the other side of the stage than the audience at these venues.

Not a problem, I respect that, soozie, just wondered if I had missed some publication of the kids. They were asked so last minute, that I haven't seen much of anything about this.

I figured you assumed I saw an article and of course you would want to see it too; I totally understand! It is just by coincidence in reading another forum and this boy posted about his show, that I put their performances together. He basically was mentioning the same thing you did but he posted under his true name. All the best with the upcoming performances!

I haven't been paying attention for several months to the threads- but would like to add that my daughter is working at Forestburgh Playhouse (Catskills) this summer. Oklahoma!, CATS, Funny Girl, Footloose. She just finished her first year at NYU/CAP 21. They also do after-hours Cabaret shows and Children's Theatre (she is "PUSS" in Puss in Boots) as well. She'lll earn Equity points too!

My D, a rising sophomore at Syracuse, will also be at Forestburgh for one show, Footloose -- she didn't go to Strawhats this year, but Forestburgh is not far from where we live. She appeared in their production of Oliver when she was 10 -- so we are quite familiar with the theater. A very nice bunch of people on staff there -- I'm sure Janenw's D will enjoy the summer.

My D is very excited to be playing the role of Gladys in "The Pajama Game" this month. I am not allowed to say where, other than the theatre is in the northeast. (D has had some negative experience with over-zealous fans "stalking" her and other performers at a job she had in H.S.) D will also be performing in "Oklahoma", "Thoroughly Modern Millie", "Music Man", "White Christmas", "Singin' In The Rain", two shows for children, - she will be choreographing one of them - and an end of season cabaret. The theatre at which she is performing pre-casts most of the leads with professionals. The company, which is primarily college students, auditions every two weeks for the remaining roles. It should be interesting to see what other parts D plays this summer. So far, she is having a blast.

White Christmas!! It is a fun show to do with greatttt music... is she doing that in the summer or in Dec.?

Kyle,

She is doing all of the shows, including "White Christmas", this summer.

College students across the US can vie for positions with theatres and other performance venues across the states – both on stage and off by attending the Southeastern Theatre Conference – March 2011. Visit our website at [Southeastern Theatre Conference, Inc.](http://www.setc.org) – pass the word!

Pass the word?! There were over 700 auditionees last year. By late Saturday half the theatres are gone due to fatigue. Already the largest of the mostly summer auditions.

Keep in mind also that many (not all) of these theaters are in the south, which if you aren’t from that region (but go to school in one of the member southern states) makes it more difficult for travel if cast. And these are non-equity positions, which quite often pay little to nothing. Still can be a great experience, but be aware.

My daughter is a MT college freshman who hopes to work in summer stock this year. She has applied to Strawhats & NETC and is still waiting to hear from both. I hear that the slots typically aren’t given to college freshmen. If she does not get into either audition, what can she do to get a summer stock job?

Would you simply mail your headshot and resume to a number of theaters and hope for an individual audition? Is that even done? Would that be a waste of money? Even so, I’m not sure how she could travel to the audition since her college is not located in a large city and she cannot have a car on campus freshman year.

Home is 300 miles away. Would it make sense for her to send resumes to local theaters at home and hope to get an audition when she is home for spring break in March? Or would the summer shows all be cast by then?
Thanks for your help!

vksmom - My D is a college freshman and she has an audition slot at Straw Hats so it is possible! Some theatres do photo/resume requests and will then invite you to audition. Some of the auditions are held in New York while other are held at the theatre. One of the theatres is allowing my D to audition via DVD since she can’t make the scheduled audition but it is a theatre that she has worked at in the past. So it is worth checking with the local theatres to see if they will accept a DVD audition, especially if she has worked with them before and they will be holding auditions before she gets there for spring break.

Some of the photo/resume alls are posted on playbill.com. My D also subscribes to Backstage so gets the notices that way. Both are great resources for keeping up on casting opportunities. And of course checking the websites of any theatres she is particularly interested in to see if they are holding regional auditions or will accept those DVDs.

Hi Ladies…quick question, my son receievd an audition slot for Strawhat. we also saw on the internet a company out in Pittsburgh called CLO, have any of you had any experience with this company? thanks for any info…
