@Princessjpmom hang in there we are in the home stretch. I feel your pain.

NYU Admissions (Shawn Abbott blog) states that they expect decisions to be posted on March 28. As I recall from last year, emails came in waves

Son still has not heard a peep out of Point Park. He is planning to attend another school, but it would be nice to have a final word.

We still haven’t heard from Pace! Well besides the once a week letter congratulating us on the academic acceptance! Every time I start to read their letter that starts with congratulations, I want to pick up the phone and call them to tell them to please take us off the mailing list!

At this point, we are expecting a rejection but a letter would also be nice to close the book on that one. I wish all communication would go out at once, instead of this trickle effect which is torture!!!
Sorry, just had to vent this morning… This waiting is awful!!

@entertainersmom - my D just received her acceptance letter yesterday for Acting so be on the lookout!

entertainersmom we haven’t heard from Point Park either so I called yesterday and was told we would hear by April 15th. Can you believe it? It would be easier if they just said no so we can get on with it. ~X(

@lkemom do you think they want to wait and see if some people drop before they send out the rest of them?

We called and were told wait listed kids would hear after May 1st. Of course after the tuition deposit is refundable lol.

We have not heard from Pace either…figured it was a no since calls went out and wondered if they are sending letters alphabetically because we are an S.

The Pace letters are going out quite randomly.

NewYorkSon I wondered about that too but it seems like these kids would go ahead and pick schools that they’ve heard from, which is probably what we’ll do.

Son did get his “no” letter from Pace yesterday. I don’t understand the long, drawn out process if Pace made the calls weeks ago to the accepted.

I agree @entertainersmom just send a quick email or something so everyone knows. I understand that there are so many out there but there has to be a better way. I think everyone should be notified at once one way or another

D got a big NO for BFA MT from Oklahoma City U a few days ago, and then today received an offer for their BFA acting program. Anyone else get this same thing? I can’t find any info on their acting program on the CC theatre boards.

@cheeseheadmike - Same thing happened to my son but he auditioned way back in November and we were notified mid December. It was his first “redirection” and he took it pretty hard, but then he was very excited to hear yes from their school of theatre. Theatre majors at OCU do take some voice/dance lessons–3 credits of each I think. We were also told that they can take more dance if they want and that all performance majors can audition for musicals. We saw two shows there (we live only 2 hours away from OCU)–110 in the Shade and Into the Woods and a few leads/supporting roles were played by non-MT majors.

@cheeseheadmike. - congratulations to your D. that’s great!!
as i think you already know, our D is a freshman at OCU. She is in MT, but has lots of friends in the BFA acting major, so I will try to answer any questions you may have. To really understand the acting major, I would first suggest you look at the BFA Acting curriculum on the website. That will give you the best idea of what classes she will take.
Acting majors, vocal performance majors and dance majors can all audition for musicals along with MTs. Likewise MTs can audition for straight shows. I think acting majors can take some limited voice as part of their major, but I think if they do it is usually wiith different teachers than the MTs and VPs. And for those who love to sing, I do think some acting majors audition for and participate in some of the vocal groups on campus like OCUpella. If she wanted wven more voice training, you might be able to pay for private lessons but I’m not sure. I am also not sure about dance classes. If there is not space to take dance as part of the acting major, or if she wanted more dance than is offered, there is a community dance center at OCUs dance school that offers classes to the public so she could take those if her schedule allowed -although that too would be an additional cost.
This year’s NYC showcase will feature both musical theatre and acting majors. All must audition for and be selected for the showcase. Participation is not guaranteed. David Friedman is there this week working with the seniors on their showcase material but in a master class format that all students can attend and learn from.
As far as after graduation, acting majors do go on to work in musicals sometimes. In fact, currently A BFA acting grad is the female lead in the national tour of Ghost (Katie Posotonik). i think many of the acting majors like to sing and dance in addition to act.
As far as straight shows, in addition to the shows they do at school, the school of Theatre will do shows in conjunction with the City Rep for which students can audition. And some can earn EMC points depending on the role. The faculty is also involved with OKC’s summer outdoor Shakespeare performances. And they also work with Oklahoma Children’s Theater. And many other things I am probably forgetting to mention.
During spring break, kids from all performance majors could participate in OCUNYC and as part of that they could take part in whichever workshops they wished. You can go to www.springbreaknyc.com and click on the schedule tab to see everything that was offered. It was really phenomenal.
I do know the theatre school has participated in bringing in guest speakers this year such as actor John O’Hurley, casting director Michael Cassara and many others. If you go to the Facebook pages of the school of theater, Wanda bass school of music and OCUs university page and scroll down, you’ll see all the many great accomplishments of alums and current students this year and see the many visiting speakers the school brings in.
We absolutely love OCU and our D could not be happier. There are lots of great things about the bfa acting major at ocu and lots of opportunities at the school. In the end, I go back to how I started. Have your D look at the BFA acting curriculum and see if she would be happy taking those classes. If you have other questions feel free to message me and I’ll do my best to try and answer them. And again, congratulations. Sounds like you all have some great options!

@vvnstar thanks for the info. It sounds a lot more like a real program offer than a consolation prize, but either way we can’t afford it. OCU is offering $4,000 off of their sticker price of $49,000 and that’s it. That makes it dead in the water, especially in light of the extremely generous offers that D has received from other schools.

@cheeseheadmike - I am creating a new spreadsheet for my D who is going to audition as a transfer next spring. I did not calculate OCU to be $49k. I see tuition @ $13,638/semester =$27.2k , Housing, Room & Board @ approx $10.5k, and misc fees (guess approx $1k). Total is approx $39k. What am I missing?

@mtmomagain My D also got an acceptance to OCU BFA Acting program. The breakdown that @cheeseheadmike gave you is what we received directly from the university:
$33,472 tuition & fees
$9534 housing & meals
$3500 books & supplies
$1700 transportation
$1050 Other educational costs

$3500 for books? What kind of books? My engineering daughter hasn’t budgeted that much, and my theater daughter certainly hasn’t.
