Wondered about this related to cost also…many kids are now taking 5 years to get through college for various reasons. It seems at a conservatory they are always out in 4 years. Might this make it a little more reasnoable when viewed this way?

ONU actually had a tuition reduction for this upcoming year…there are some newspaper articles about it…

@tarheelmom … The $38,960 I listed is actually with the tuition reduction. It was a nice surprise for sure when we’d heard about it. :)

Side by side cost comparison! What a GREAT thread!!! Anyone want to start a new thread on just this topic?!? Pretty please??? $-)

Just received S’s FA from IU. Ouchy, on that out-of-state differential - that’s WITH a a few nice scholarships. Maybe if we sell the house and buy a mobile home in Indiana. . . .

@mom4bwayboy I know RIGHT? I think my D’s eyes bugged out of her head!

I checked @vvnstar 's costs against the ones in my spreadsheet, for those schools we have in common. I think @vvnstar 's numbers include Room & Board for Ball State. Tuition and Fees only is just under $25k according to their website. Of course, I was off when using OCU’s website, but can I really be $10k off? BTW, I really like that tuition is locked in at OCU. It is one of those things they should advertise more. I remember visiting George Washington University when touring schools with my non-MT daughter several years ago. They do the same thing, and if you have 2 siblings there at the same time, the 2nd sibling is 50% off! We didn’t know that until we visited. Little known facts can be very helpful. Anyone else have a little known fact regarding tuition at one of the MT programs?

@addicted2mt I just started the thread entitled “Sticker schock!”. It is a big topic of conversation between the parents in my circle, regardless of major. We have made it clear to D that cost will weigh heavily in “her” decision as to which school to attend.

Please jump in everyone so we can consolidate the financial info.

Good catch @mtmomagain. I rechecked. Tuition and fees for Ball State is are 28400 if you back out the 8,340 they included for room and board. Our D is actually a freshman in college this year so I was just pulling numbers for tuition and fees off each school’s website so everyone could compare apples to apples. I purposely left off room and board because there are so many different options for room and board at each school there isn’t a way to compare them all equally. But everyone feel free to add to or update numbers. I think what you will find is most of these schools wil cost somewhere between $40,000 and $60,000 per year before any credit for scholarships or financial aid.

Are most schools the same with the room and board that as a freshman you have to dorm at the school? Just curious on that.

@newYorkSon - i think most places we applied require you live on campus freshman year. But im sure it can vary. And being in MT can put you at a disadvantage some places. For example, if a school has rolling admissions, but you don’t find out until April or later if you’ve been accepted in the MT program, much of the school’s housing can already be spoken for. Or you might not have choices, I know last year at Penn State some students were put in rooms with 6 -8 people in them, almost like barracks, until other accommodations could be found. But other places hold space for MTs or have options as to what type of housing you want to live in. You may even qualify for things such as honors program housing. Every school is different but the sooner you send in your housing deposit, usually the better choice you have of where to live.

Oh my 6-8 people not thinking my son would like that. The whole process is so confusing to me. We are heading to Ithaca April 12th and should find out more information about all that information I would think. Very excited!!

Just received a letter from Webster in today’s mail 3/27 – letter dated 3/24 – sadly, a “no” for D. We have found that “window” envelopes don’t bring good news – I take it as a sign of a mass mailing which is probably how all the rejections go out. As soon as I saw the window envelope . . …Oh Well! Good luck to all! D has some good “yes’s” and a waitlist. Decision time!

Good luck @janne006 cant wait to hear the final decision.

To add to @vvnstar 's comment about housing options being limited at rolling admissions schools, it is absolutely true. I strongly suggest if you are deciding between just a few schools that you put housing deposits down ASAP if you can do so without committing to the school. The schools that allow it often allow you to get your deposit back if you notify them by May 1. It could make a real difference. It isn’t what the Muggles do, and therefore not what guidance counselors will advise, but it could impact your living arrangements next year.

I heard some people got WEBSTER No letters last week. Has anyone gotten Yes letters? We have not received anythying. Also, I know people have gotten calls and No letters from PACE…we have not received anything. The waiting… any suggestions? Is it bad to call them?

My S sent an email to Lara and he promptly responded and told S he was not accepted - he was very sweet about it. I would have your S (D? sorry) do that.

Not MT, my son is Acting though and we too have gotten phone calls but no letters from PACE. We keep being told to expect something in the mail within a week. We have never received anything, although they do keep calling my S to see how he is coming along in his decision making process.
I called today to find out why we’ve not gotten any financial aid info and found out that there was some sort of problem with his admission. Apparently his application was showing as “complete, waiting for review”.

My S called Grant and within an hour, they had lifted that and phoned him that he is now admitted. Grant also texted. When following up with the financial aid department on the phone, I got the same “expect something in a week” line, we’ve been getting all along. Sorry… not gonna hold my breath on that one!

If you’ve not heard from them, I suggest a call. My son was encouraged to apply right after unified LA, which he did. Then, he was told he was admitted by phone , and then over a week ago, when we called to check in, found that they didn’t have everything they needed, some sort of problem with data transfer from common app that we were not alerted to. We worked to make sure they had all required documents by both email and fax to the admissions department. In thinking back… I don’t think they have ever contacted us to let us know there was a problem, but every time we’ve checked in, there has been a firm roadblock in place requiring attention before anything can move forward.

Some of these schools (not naming any names) are just incredibly bad at the administrative stuff.

Agreed @Jkellynh17
