MT Progams for students on their 30s

It may sound crazy but does anyone know what MT schools accept students on their 30s? At 34 I have found my path, I have a master in economics and for two years I have been taking singing, acting and ballet private lessons.
I am unsure to apply to a college because of my age and I was wondering to apply to a non-college school such as CAP21 or Circle in the Square. Another option I have is to go to take acting lectures and ballet, jazz, tap in schools like Stella Adler and Broadway dance center and take private singing lessons with the Estill Technique.

I really need your advice

Thanks

My D goes to Ithaca, and one of her classmates came to the MT program after receiving a BFA in another major (music performance). So he is 25 or 26. The school did not hesitate to take him. I think the schools care more about your talent level and probably how old you look. If you are a youthful looking 34, and can keep up with the dance, I’m not sure why it would be a problem.

Why don’t you call some of the programs you are most interested in? Best of luck to you!

Thank you so much! I will contact the proframs faculties for sure!

San Diego State University offers an MFA in MT.

I think CAP21 or Circle in the Square are great options since you already have earned an undergraduate and graduate degree and don’t need the time or cost of another four year degree. The intense training in these two year programs are suited to someone like yourself.

Yes I know they do but I have not a BFA or BA in MT, I have a Master in economics and a Bachelor in international relations, I was wondering If I will be able to do a master in MT without previously studying a bachelor in arts.

I know your degrees are in something else. But there is no need to do another four year undergraduate degree program to focus on a different major. It will take more time and more money, when you can just focus on JUST the training condensed into two years at a program like CITS or CAP21. There are not many graduate degree programs in MT, but you can inquire at them if they admit students who don’t have degrees in the performing arts. My guess is that they are focused more on the audition than what prior degree you have.

Thank you soozievt, you are totally right, I will audition for CITS and CAP21, those are my two options plus NYU has a master too and San Diego. Doing an undergraduate degree is not what I am looking for, I like the conservatory programs a lot but as far as I know CAP21and CITS are the only programs that offer a conservatory training for 2 years. Also the Randolph Academy for the performing arts in Toronto offerts a 2 year program but I know very little about its training and reputation.

NYU’s masters degree programs are in Acting, not MT, though they have a graduate program in MT writing, but I don’t think you are seeking that.

NYU Steinhardt offers a MA in Vocal Performance with MT concentration.

There are many MFA Acting programs that have strong MT bases. I think you would be an ideal candidate for some of those.

I agree wit Soozie. If your goal is performing, focus on training. You already have 2 degrees and the “college experience”! If you want to teach, that may be another story, but I would think you wouldn’t be a credible applicant without some experience in the business.

Agree with others, no need to do another undergraduate degree. CITS and CAP21 are great. You may also want to look at PCPA http://www.pcpa.org/conservatory1/page5/ they are an Acting Conservatory program with Musical Theatre training. Some schools with masters degrees may allow you to enter the program without an undergraduate degree in theatre, music, or musical theatre. Other masters programs than those already mentioned that offer an advanced degree in Musical Theatre are Boston Conservatory (MFA), Arizona State (MM), and may be worth looking into.

Thank you so much you all for your kindly help! I know UC Irvine has a Master in Drama too with MT training. It is ranked 8th in the the whole nation.

Also I forgot to ask, what have you heard about the American Musical Academy of London. Its headquearters are located in London and last year they have opened this conservatory school in NY. Note that It has nothing to do with AMDA. This AMTA school offers one year program in MT.

@luisen – I almost mentioned Irvine as an option to explore! Great program. I believe MFAs at Indiana also have Musical Theatre opportunities.
