Muhlenberg for a non-theatre boy

Hi - have not visited yet - hoping to do so this fall when S2 is a junior. Attracted to Muhlenberg because of the small size, attractive campus, reputation for quality academics in a friendly environment, and Jewish-friendly environment. Son is a B+ student who would probably major in business. I could see him being very involved in Hillel and maybe intermural sports - but he has no interest in anything theatre related. Would Muhlenberg be a good fit for him? I am starting to be concerned that it might be too oriented towards theatre and performing arts.

RM: fwiw, the majority of the males we know at Muhlenberg are science and business majors…and a few athletes sprinkled in there…when you visit, this will be clarified for you…

I think that CC posters are focused on the theatre program because of the competitive nature of that particular major at all schools (and because of Muhlenberg’s rep in that area)…

If you need to talk to parents of boys, let me know…

Rockville- I was in the same boat as your son in the beginning of this year. When I looked at Muhlenberg, I had no idea it was such a theater oriented school. I have never really been involved in anything theater related, and because of this I thought that it would be hard to find things in common with a lot of the students. However, I really liked every other aspect about the school (small size, good student/professor relationships, welcoming environment, good psychology program, reputation, Jewish population, location (to home), etc) so I applied ED. I just attended the accepted students day on Saturday and I absolutely loved it! Everyone was really nice and at least from what I saw, the students tended to be pretty well rounded. I met basketball player who is majoring in theater, and a business major who is already starting a band with kids he met through facebook. Being there on Saturday really left no doubt in my mind that choosing Muhlenberg was the best choice I could have made. I visited around 10 schools (GW, UMaryland, Ursinus, Union, TCNJ, and more) and not one of stood out to me more than Muhlenberg.

Good luck to your son!!!

Thank you both so much - it stays on the list!
