I assume your D knows then, that 65% of this year's freshman class was ED, so that will highly increase her chances of getting in. I remember my daughter being particularly impressed by the acting class, too. Was the one your D attended in Jim Peck's class? Also, Charlie Richter just has a way with connecting with prospective students and their parents. He's a gem.

My D began Muhlenberg with aspirations of spending her breaks at home with a good friend from high school, who will be a single mom in a couple of weeks. Needless to say, I wasn't too thrilled about her foregoing some wonderful opportunities for the summer MT program there (they do 3 musicals over the summer, and also have a children's program), nor thinking that she just might fall in love enough with the school that she'd consider other opportunities. After being home over Thanksgiving break, her plans now include not coming home at all for spring break (hanging with some of her new theatre friends), and she definitely wants to stay there for the summer, because that's where all her friends are now. The transformation has been amazing!

Ok, I will fess up here: teriwtt is my "little bird.: :) (Teri, you know I love ya!) But my kid and I have also visited campus twice now and have been more impressed with the whole Muhlenberg scene each time. Great school, great kids, great program.

My d got a phone call from the school to tell her she was accepted ED and she is thrilled! (And it was so nice that they called so she could enjoy her Christmas and not wait by the mailbox for a letter) After auditioning elsewhere she just felt at home at Muhlenberg. She is really excited and so pleased to have the auditions behind her and a decision made. She loved the acting class she attended - said it was better than the ones she attended at some of the "top tier" schools - so at least it is a fit for her. We are pleased and hope that it is as good a fit as it appears.

2isanactress, congrats to your D! What a wonderful holiday present. Congrats to her. Muhlenberg is a wonderful college, and if your D applied ED, then she obviously thought it was the place she wanted to be. It's lovely when a kid finds a place at the place she/he feels that she/he fits best. Happy holidays. :)

2isanactress, congrats on your d's acceptance! My daughter has also applied ED after visiting in November and auditions in theater and dance. She is still waiting to hear (application was final on Dec 7). She wasn't going to do any ED's but the visit changed her mind. She attended both a theater and dance class and was impressed by both. However, the thing that impressed her the most was the attitude of everyone she met and the culture of the school. So although she has 5 academic acceptances already to other schools and a number of auditions scheduled, she is smitten with Muhlenberg. I just hope it works out. Again, congrats!

welcome to all new 'Berg parents, and congratulations to your kids... what a wonderful feeling going into the winter break - no more worrying about letters arriving, auditions, applications, etc. Now they can sit back and relax! If any of you have any questions, there are a couple of parents who check this thread occasionally with kids currently studying at the 'Berg.

My daughter got her acceptance letter yesterday and to say she is excited is an understatement. You could also see the sense of relief on her face as she now knows where she will be going to school. The whole Muhlenberg experience has been wonderful. I also found out yesterday that she has been talking with her tour guide weekly since we are there in Nov, so has been picking up information about the school since then. Now she starts the process of getting ready and finishing High School strongly (there is already some senioritis setting in)! Good luck to everyone else!

Soozievt, thank you. It is wonderful that she gets to go to school where her heart is! On a side note, we lived in Vermont in 92 & 93 (I worked for Howard Dean, which was a fun experience). It is a great place to live and if my mother hadn't gotten sick all the way out in Seattle we would probably still be living there today!

Boneman, again, very happy for your daughter! It's a great feeling to have your child's wishes come true. Muhlenberg is a great school and very good for someone interested in MT.

Well, we don't have very many Vermonters here on the MT forum (I think just Sporti and me). I was here in VT when you were. I've been in this state since 1981! I'm not a native Vermonter but my kids are. That's cool about Howard Dean. You likely even lived in my region. I have run into him a few times. I like him. I recall when my older D was in primary grades, she was in state chess tournaments and Howard's son, who is her age, was also in them and my husband chatted with Howard on the sidelines. I have to say, I much prefer watching my kids' musical theater shows than a chess tournament! LOL

Congrats Boneman's D. My daughter is coming to Muhlenberg from Maine, so they will be coming from the same region....don't think my D will miss shoveling snow (which is about all we have done this holiday!) Congratulations. It is a relief and especially when they are so happy with the outcome.

One of my daughter's best friends at Muhlenberg is also from Maine, and is a theatre major. They are going to the Dominican Republic with her parents over spring break! Being from Illinois, D is missing all her east coast friends right about now and is looking forward to returning next week. On New Year's Eve, she started getting text messages at 11PM CST from all her east coast friends... At midnight our time, she sent her messages back to them, wishing them a happy new years, from the CST.

I'm so glad to hear that muhlenberg is so amazing! I'm about to head up for a visit and interview soon (no SATS sent! i love that policy). I applied for RD and hope that I still have a chance in getting in. This was sort of a late decision on this school. I got stuff in the mail from them.. and really I was hooked from just that. I can't wait to see the school!!!!

okay so here's my WONDERFUL muhlenberg experience: flew into Newark and was going to take a bus to ABE airport since Continental doesn't fly there but I missed the bus because it left 30 mins prior to departure!! The lady at the desk was very rude and said to just deal with it and take a later (evening) bus. My dad and I decided to just drive. It was a beautiful drive!!!!!! And I have to say the location of allentown is great because it's not too terribly far from NYC. I had the best southern Italian food in my life, so if anyone is out in allentown head to Bilissimos (sp?). It was amazing. The next morning I had a meeting with Charles Richter, the head of the theatre/dance department and he took me on a tour and spoke about MT there. I loved it because it's very flexible to take the classes needed to have a career in MT. The facilities are just wonderful! I also found out about a study abroad acting program and Tuscany that sounded just amazing. He also said that the classes were very intense and said it is up to par with conservatories. He also said right now there is either a jazz or tap instructor that was in the original cast of A Chorus Line. I was really impressed by that. He also said that the tap there is top notch. All in all, I was blown away by the program and decided after my interview w/admissions that I was changing my regular decision to early decision. It's a beautiful campus with wonderful opportunities and I hope I get in!!! if anyone has anymore questions, I will try to help.

BWayBound - is the Tuscany program new? I know of their London study abroad program with the London Theatre Program at Goldsmiths College, but I had never heard about Tuscany. D2 has been looking forward to the opportunity to study in London since deciding on Muhlenberg.

P.S. Did you audition for the talent scholarship? If so, how do you think it went?

Bwaybound-great trip report and thanks for sharing! Glad all went well, despite the bumpy start.
Congrats on finding the right school for you in these competitive times.
Will enjoy hearing the happy news when you are officially accepted!

I'm not sure if it's new. I was asking Mr. Richter about the London program actually and he said that it's more of an intro to theatre sort of experience but should consider the one in Tuscany because it's a really hardcore acting program. I didn't get the chance to audition because of time restraints (my school only lets you take off 2 days for college visits YOUR WHOLE SENIOR YEAR). Although, my interview with admissions went well I think. I didn't get any really obscure questions, it was more like a conversation. If i get in, i hope that I can go back for scholarship auditions.
