I seem to remember someone saying a a few years ago that you are not allowed to put deposits down at two schools. Is that true? I know there are exceptions for the Service Academies (and I think for waitlisted kids).
It’s true. Only one deposit.
You don’t put a deposit down where you are wait listed. You put a deposit down on another school. If you are accepted off the wait list, you tell the first school where you deposited that you won’t be attending.
You can’t tell two schools that you are accepting their offer to matriculate…at the same time.
And it is ok to put a deposit down and back out if you get a Service Academy appointment after May 1, correct?
One deposit at a time; backing out if you change your mind.
Some schools accept deposits as early as October and let you put down housing deposit to get in line early.
I think that as of May 1st, you can only deposit at one school. Prior to that can be a gray area.
Yes…if your kiddo gets accepted off of a waitlist after May 1, you can tell the first school that you got off of a waitlist. And won’t be attending, students do that every year.
Mom2, even prior to May 1, you aren’t supposed to make admissions deposits to matriculate at more than one school,at a time. Housing deposits…yes. Enrollment deposits…no.
Yes, one deposit at a time. If you get into a preferred school be it a service academy or any other college you would then withdraw from the first school and put in a deposit (or accept a position at the academy) at the second school. If this happens you will likely lose your deposit at the first school.
