Multiple Tests in Same Subject

Hi guys,

I was just wondering, I'm taking AP World History this year and I was wondering if it is worth it to take both the AP exam and the SAT II exam? What are your opinions on this?

Hmmm...It definitely depends on your willingness to study and abilities.
I thought of taking AP Euro and then SAT II World, but I don't have enough time to fight the schoolboard AND study haha :) so check with your school before you decide anything

AP World and Euro-have essays and DBQ's. Multiple Choice is WAY more indepth

SAT II World: Only Multiple Choice, less indepth

It depends if you're a good multiple choicer or essay writer. It might be better to just wait til AP american history/Sat II american-I've heard they are more similar

Well, I guess my problem isn't really with the time it would take to study but is it worth the extra money to do both?

Where are you applying and how many other SAT II's do you have? There is no college that requires AP scores for admission. There are a very few that will accept AP scores in lieu of SAT II's. Most colleges also do not require SAT II's. However, if you are applying to a college that does require II's then you will need two SAT II scores (and for a few three SAT II scores) for the purpose of admission. In other words, if you are (a) applying to colleges that do not use SAT II's for admission (the majority), there is no reason to take it; or (b) applying to colleges that require SAT II's then you should consider taking it unless you already have the number needed because just having an AP score is not going to be accepted as a substitute.

definitely take both if you are good at history.

Definitely take the SAT 2. My daughter took APUSH as a soph and the SATs were not even on her radar screen. The school's view was that "very few" colleges require SAT 2s so they didn't tell the kids to consider taking it. Well, guess what, her number one school is Georgetown which requires 3 SAT IIs. She was scrambling to find a third subject test to take which is a shame because she aced the APUSH test - she even considered revisiting the subject but it's the kind of memory work that you don't retain after a year. She ended up taking Biology, Math and English Lit and only doing well on the Biology (taken at the same time as AP Bio). She is hoping that they will consider her 5's on APUSH and APPsych and her high SAT 1 writing score but these are not official criteria for admission.
My son will be taking the SAT2 for US History in May!

If you're applying to a college that requires SAT subject tests, YES.
I wish someone would have told me about SAT II requirements before I lost all my knowledge of US history.

Last year, my son took 5 AP exams in May and then on the June SAT date, he took 3 SAT II Subject tests. He said that after taking AP US History, he felt that the SAT II in US History was easy. He also took the subject tests for World History and Bio E. He said that taking the Europ Hist AP exam and Bio AP before the Subject II's helped, but he wished he has studied for the World History since there was some gaps in what was covered in his school classes.
