Is it possible to take multiv. calc and linear alg. at the same time? Do you need to take one before the other?

At my school there was no problem in doing so.

Totally different, definitely fine to take both at the same time.

Most often, one is not a prereq of another, so you can take them simultaneously. I personally took Calcu3 and DiffEq at the same time and had no trouble. I’d imagine the load would be similar with Calc3 and Linear Algebra since I found Linear Algebra only slightly more difficult than DiffEq.

Yes, you can take both at the same time.

I know I was an undergrad years ago but why did my school suggest otherwise is beyond me.

I would take Multivariable calc first. Linear algebra discuss a lot about matrix, linear combinations and such. You will have a better grasp if you do multi first.
In our school, we offer two types of linear algebra. one for math major, one for engineers and scientist.
As an engineering major, I take linear algebra and vector analysis (in one course). Some schools splits it up into two courses.
Again, it depends on the curriculum. Like I said, I would take multi first because vectors analysis is included in the same course. It’s a lot better for students to have some solid foundation first.
Your school might not have the same curriculum…
