Mundane topics for essay

I was reading online that mundane topics could be interesting for college essays. I've never helped war veterans nor have I ever researched for a cure for cancer so I'm thinking of the making the incredible of my mundaneness and play it to my advantage.
Now, I'm looking at prompt 2 of the commonapp, the one about recounting a failure. I'm thinking of writing about the time I failed to become a baker( baked goods come out burnt and inedible). Is it too mundane/stupid?

It doesn’t matter at all how grandiose or mundane your topic is. You’re asking the wrong question.
Listen: our lives are defined mostly by little things, but you can’t just pick some random little thing and write a brilliant college essay about it. You have to pick an event that actually affected you and meant something to you, regardless of whether or not other people would consider it a big deal.
Writing about commonplace things as a gimmick (as in, solely because they’re commonplace) is not going to work.
