This will be my very first quarter at UW, and I'm hoping to ease the transition by taking 12 or 13 credits instead of 15 - 17. For specific reasons that I won't bother listing, I'm not joining a FIG. I've chosen two 5-credit classes and now I'm trying to decide between Elementary Music Theory (2 credits) and Appreciation of Architecture (3 credits).

I've been told that both are easy classes; however, ratemyprofessors.com says that the professor for the music class is truly terrible, and that for arbitrary reasons it may be hard to get a good grade. As for the architecture class, I've heard that it's just plain boring and the entire thing consists of taking notes from slides.

Anyone have any insight?

How you like this class will probably depend on your interest in the subject.

Personally I thought the class was a good way to squeeze in a couple extra credits. I’m interested in the subject, found Prof. Ann Huppert to be thorough, so did like the class.

That said, because of the time of day (I hate being in class in the late afternoon) and length of the class it did tend to drag at times. So if you really have no interest in the subject matter you may find it tedious.

Well, I’ve had probably no exposure to the subject of architecture so I’m not sure how interested I’ll be, whereas I’ve been playing the piano for a number of years and have learned some music theory. I think, though, I just want to choose the class that’s easier, as my objective is to just ease myself into my first quarter with classes that aren’t too difficult.

ARCH 150 was easy. I had professor Huppert. Grades were based on four multiple choice quizzes.
