Lawrence’s programs are so excellent I just wanted to post this. http://www.lawrence.edu/conservatory/21st-century-musicianship Scroll down for an description of the 9 entrepreneurial classes, but the entire curriculum looks great. And 50% of conservatory students are doing the double degree apparently.
So much helpful, practical, GREAT advice. I took the weekend to have some sitdown, focus discussions with my husband and son. Had them both read through and digest these pages and article links. What a revelation. Not all problems solved but a much clearer path, thanks to all of you. Not to keep you in suspense but now are thinking about going ahead and pursuing the Bachelor of Music with either a supplemental music business or leaving Business Admin or Arts Admin for grad school. ( The Peabody JH article was a huge help to my son. He immediately identified as Howard.)
I will write a more detailed post with inevitably, more questions soon. For now I just wanted to extend my absolute gratitude that a group of people unknown to us would help so unselfishly. It has made a huge difference, and honestly, my son is happier than he has been in months now that he has a clear focus, and not such a huge cloud of uncertainty hanging over him. What joy and relief to see. He expressed that he feels that all of his work now seems to have a purpose, and therefore a lot of his frustration is lifted. We cannot thank you all enough! I hope that I can pay this forward on this forum in months and years to come. Post soon with more questions! You’ve created a monster
So nice to hear that things are clearer and maybe easier! Keep posting whenever. We all did at one time, believe me
I am posting because want to say hi to Sarajanine - I am also the parent of a junior (another “Howard” in the Peabody essay) so we’ll be going through this together. I was raised in Kansas (KC suburbs), too, but left for college and settled elsewhere. We have the self-employed thing in common as well. PM me if you like. I’ve been following this forum for a couple of years, mostly lurking, and I have learned sooo much and thanks to that knowledge and the guidance of my son’s private teacher I feel like we are way ahead of the game in terms of doing the right things and preparing for next year’s applications and auditions. Right now we are mostly focused on winnowing down the list of schools and standardized test prep.
Hello classicalsaxmom! It will be great to navigate these waters with you. We too have a wonderful private voice teacher who we will be relying heavily upon. I will PM you soon as I’d love to know what schools you all are looking at as well as how you’re getting ready for the new SAT! Cheers.
