Does anyone have experience with the music department at Macalester - both vocal and instrumental? Is it possible for music students to pursue both music and liberal arts degrees?

Trust me, nobody ever responds on the Macalester posts. I don't know why. I posted something a while back, and samies posted something way before that. For some reason, nobody answers our questions. You're probably best off finding contacts for students on the school website or calling the music department person at Macalester, if you can't find your answer on the school website itself. Calling or e-mailing and having a good conversation with a professor at Macalester will probably give you the answer that you're looking for, and there's nothing to lose.

If it helps any, my son and I visited Mac last week. One of my son's questions was the opportunities available to non-music majors for lessons and getting involved. We toured the music building and while it is not as large as some we've seen, my son came away feeling that he'd be able to satisfy his music needs at Mac. It is entirely possible to double major, or to just take lessons/be involved at Mac. But, I agree with the last poster - best to email or call the music department directly to get answers to your specific questions and interests. Overall, my son really liked what he saw at Mac, even though at first he wasn't too sure about the small size of the campus he came away with a good feeling for the school, it's location, and the overall environment there.
