Music at Wooster?

Looks like maybe Wooster has a pretty serious music department, based on the fact that you can get a Bachelor of Music degree, which is not very common for liberal arts colleges. Can anyone out there comment on music (particularly classical) at Wooster? Thanks!

Also interested in this question. Anyone?

No info on this, even though we have been to campus twice. Looking at the on-line tour, the Music building looks wonderful, and the music faculty, at least in my kid’s area of interest, looks strong. My son will probably be back on campus one more time in order to make his decision, so we will investigate that next time around. At other schools, my son has made appointments to meet with music faculty and get a tour of the facility, so we will do that at Wooster too.

The only tidbit I’ve managed to glean is from http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/. By entering a college and clicking on Programs/Majors, you can see how many folks majored in each discipline in the prior year. It’s not a perfect metric for the strength of a department, but at least it’s something. Combining general, theory and performance, 9 kids majored in music last year at Wooster. For a small liberal arts college, that’s actually a fairly high number, so I’m guessing that the music scene at Wooster is at least above average.

Current Wooster student here! Though I don’t know much in regards to Classical music, I think I can answer some more general questions about music at Wooster. Wooster offers four different degree programs. Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Art in Music, Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Music Education in Music Therapy. The Therapy program is in conjunction with Baldwin Wallace, where students take some classes. The B.M. degree can have a focus in either Performance, Theory/Composition, or Music History/Literature. Between all the different degrees offered, the department is pretty strong.
