Music Colleges With Curriculum in Contemporary Music?

Hi, I am interested in pursuing a performance degree in music. However, I would like to focus on contemporary music (rock, jazz) and am looking for a school that would suit my needs. I heard of the Musician's Institute in LA. The price is reasonable but I am just wondering about the quality of the school. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You may also want to have a look at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (berklee.edu)

The Department of Music at the University of California San Diego is very focused on contemporary music, and is an excellent academic environment as well.

I would definitely check into Berklee College of Music like bassdad said.

It kind of depends on what instrument you play...if you play guitar, Berklee would be a great place. I did a workshop there this past summer and they seemed to heavily focus on guitar. It's an awesome school and most of the music they do is 20th century. I decided to not apply because I was interested in larger ensembles, a campus atmosphere, and having the option of playing pre-20th century music.

The atmosphere there is AMAZING, though. Their ensemble practice rooms are incredible. Plus, Boston is huge and there's a ton of stuff going on around there.
