I am currently looking into colleges and universities that are well-known with their music composition program, but am having difficulties with deciding whether or not to look into an all-music college. As of right now, I'm mostly aiming for colleges that have music along with other programs of study, just in case I decide that music isn't the right choice for me.

If I continue in the path of music, then I am hoping to compose video game music in the future. I hope someone is capable of helping me with suggestions!

Video game music! Awesome! I know of some people who, without degrees, have netted jobs scoring games with impressive web sites, good samples, and intense self-promotion. Getting a degree in music can surely help, but it won't go the whole 9 yards for you. If you're serious about doing game music all of the above couldn't hurt. It's a dog-eat-dog world.

Will you enjoy working 80 hours a week and never seeing your family? Because that's what the video game industry is like, says my husband the composition professor. Not to say don't do it, but do be aware that this is what the industry is like. It comes as a surprise to some people.

I wasn't quite aware that it would be roughly 80 hours a week, but that would make sense; and, in the end, the reward reaped in the end would be satisfying. My choices right now for majors are Writing, Music, and lastly, Art. I'm pretty well-balanced when it comes to most subjects, but I just don't have the needed inspiration to work in any of the sciences.
