I'm pretty new to the whole college system and would really appreciate any advice I can get. I'd really like to compose music for film, anime, video games, etc. What would be the best way to go? I know the obvious answer is music major, but I've heard a lot of things like the fact that there's a very large number of people and limited opportunities going down that path. I also don't particularly enjoy studying music in a classroom setting. Is there anything else I could major in that would practically help me land a position composing music aside from business?

Maybe music engineering? This is a more technical degree, but many smaller game developers have their audio engineers write music as well. This sort of degree will probably give you more job flexibility in case you lose interest in the actual music part. That said, I believe most prominent film/game composers have a traditional foundation in composition and music theory.

computer science with a concentration in audio engineering? maybe a music minor
