Hello all - wrestling with wording for a composer’s repertoire list. How would you describe a video game soundtrack or a rock album composed in Logic? Most of the works on the list are classical for piano, chamber, and orchestra, but a few other works don’t fit that mold and think it might be good to show diversity. Would one say “video game soundtrack - digital instruments” or “digital soundtrack.” I am aware “electronic” is a term of art so I’m not sure if it applies in this case… Or is it a total turn off to have a video game or rock works on such a list, even for a progressive school?
Definitely include it. There are many possibilities for how to word these entries.
Youcan have two sections, classical and digital (or electronic, or music technology, ???). Or add them at the end.
I think “video game soundtrack” is good because it describes the genre and intent. “Indie rock- composed in Logic” is fine too. Or whatever kind of rock it is.
There is a lot of blurring of genres these days in “classical” composition that is innovative aka new music. It’s fine to have these in the repertoire.
I wouldn’t stress too much about the language overall.
