So I'm a mezzo-soprano vocalist with a big voice. I just got back from Tanglewood and I already did my audition for BU there.

I've got a 4.0 Weighted GPA and a 3.7 unweighted.

my ACT is 29 composit with 35 Reading 31 English 29 Science and 23 Math
and I'm retaking it again in the fall.

What I'm really looking for is a good school with a double degree program that has a strong intellectual envirement, if possible small located in a city and not to far away from the midwest. I have a bunch of reaches or what at least is on the hard end of things so I'm looking primarily for safeties. Here is what I have so far.

Boston University- went to T-wood and already did my audition there, and I think it went well. Also the stats match up to mine pretty well. But it seems a little big and I've heard it's hard to do a double degree there.
Oberlin- On the reach side of thing but I think I'd really like the atmosphere. Heard good things about their double degree
Lawrence- Also heard good things, especially about their double degree program, and they have a good mezzo teacher. my stats also match up pretty well with theirs.
University of Rochester's affiliation with Eastmen- I don't know much about this but I know that with my stats it might be a bit of a reach.
Rice- I don't know if they have a good double degree program but I've heard good things about their music department. Also a semi-reach.
John's Hopkins- Also a reach statistically but I've heard great thing about the Peabody school and my friend is doing a double degree.

Music double degree programs will often depend mostly on the conservatory audition. Have you had any luck asking around in the music majors forum?

I must comment on Keilexandra's comment. Double degree programs do NOT depend mostly on the conservatory audition. In order to be admitted into any double degree program you will need to meet the requirements for both degrees - the audition requirements for the music degree and the academic requirements for the academic degree. One does not supercede the other.

^ I can only speak from cursory impressions of the Oberlin double-degree program. The website states frankly that conservatory admission depends largely on audition--as long as your academics are passable, it's not a factor (except for merit aid, etc.).

University of Rochester/Eastman is a wonderful combination. Rochester definitely has the intellectual feel and the music at Eastman cannot be better. Your stats should be more of a high match for Rochester rather than a reach.

I second the U of Rochester/Eastman combo. Another thought for you would be to look at the Ithaca College: Music in Combination with an Outside Field.

Keilexandra, what you say is true about Oberlin conservatory admission. But to be admitted to the double degree program, you must fully meet A&S admissions standards. In other words, you must apply and be accepted to each division separately.

The Rochester/Eastman combination is a good dual degree. Many still graduate in 4 years. There is good bus service between Eastman and River Campus.
