Music Ed.

Lately I've been considering a major in music ed. Choral emphasis. I've been apart of band for the past 6 years and this is my first year of choir, junior and symphonic choir and show choir), I recently discovered I like to sing, and want to pursue a career in it. What schools except people in my case of not having that much experience and is there any advice you could give me to help improve my chances?

Are you interested in any particular area of the country? Your choir director who knows you best should be able to let you know the repertoire needed for your instate school music ed choir programs. Since you’ve been in band for 6 years and are now in choir, it is possible that you will be able to cross over to vocal and get into a more competitive music ed program. You want to attend the strongest music ed programs in the state you would like to teach. The music ed job market is tough at this time and attending a strong institution will increase your chance of having your resume looked at and getting that initial interview. Public schools tend to hire from schools that have proven to have successful candidates in the past. A strong alumni network will definitely help once you graduate.
