music lesson opportunities for non-music majors

How accessible are music (piano) lessons for Rice students who are NOT in the school of music?

The Shepard School offers private lessons for nonmajors:

  • PRIVATE LESSONS (MUSI 141-197) 2 credits in:
    Bassoon Harp Saxophone
    Cello Horn Trombone
    Clarinet Oboe Trumpet
    Classical Guitar Percussion Tuba
    Double Bass Piano Viola
    Flute Violin

You must register at the Shepherd School office prior to university registration. (Associate Dean’s signature is required.) Private lessons are taught by graduate students. An applied music fee of $400 per semester will be charged to your ESTHER account for these lessons.

See [Shepherd School of Music - Rice University](http://music.rice.edu/undergraduate/nonmajor.shtml) for even more opportunities for non-majors.

This is good to know.

any way to get lessons from the faculty? It would be awesome to learn from Shepard teachers…

I don’t believe so, unfortunately  I had a phone conversation with a faculty member from Shepard on my instrument (trombone) and he said that he only taught music majors.
