Music major on trimester schedule

Anyone have any input on what it’s like to be a music major at a college with a trimester schedule? It seems like your first year would have very little time for much other than theory/aural skills but it would be done faster?

D attended a school with trimesters. Finishing requirements wasn’t any faster but also depended on results of placement exams. It did provide greater opportunity to sample diverse courses outside of music. Biggest issue in her case was trimester began late (mid September) and classes weren’t out until first week of June and this played havoc on trying to attend summer programs where the start date was often early May.

That was my hope, that there would be more slots for some different academic disciplines. I was also thinking that the theory series would be complete at the fourth trimester instead of the end of sophomore year. Hadn’t considered summer opportunities… Son is interested in DCI so that could definitely be a problem.
