I'm not a music student, but where are there pianos/music practice rooms that one could use freely? (in buildings, dorms?) Preferably ones that are NOT locked to non-residents. I know I could get into the ones at Allen during the daytime but this year I'm living on the other side of Champaign and I might be working somewhere in the Six Pack.

I think i remember there being one in the forbes 1st floor lounge.

lungdern basement

I'm also looking for practice rooms. Can't you use the rooms in the Music Building? And taffy, are you serious about the lungdern basement? Is there actually a basement called that?

I believe tennisfan88 meant the basement of the dorm called Lundgren Hall that is close to the primary Six-Pack dorms. No, you can't just use the rooms in the Music Building without formally requesting their use through the university. Classes, private lessons, and such are typically going on. The same is true for pretty much any room in any building of the University. Any group (clubs, organizations, etc.) or person (professor looking to host a study/review session) has to submit a formal request.

Open to use music practice rooms are really only found in the dorms, and only when there is not a scheduled lesson taking place within. Weston may have practice rooms since the Weston Exploration Living-Learning Community has access to free music lessons there.

I see. Thanks.

Sorry, taffy. I got mixed up with the names.

I'm living in Weston and there ARE a few music practice rooms in the tunnels which you should always be able to get to because you have to get into the peabody drive residence halls in order to get to the peabody drive dining hall

I personally don't use them so I don't know if you need a special key but I kind of doubt it, plus there are people in the tunnels from the PAR halls at pretty much ANY time of the day so help is around.
