Hi-
I'm currently a sophmore in high school interested in classical voice programs for the summer. I am looking at Northwestern and Carnegie Mellon right now, as I am interested in a program that runs about four-six weeks that focuses just on the voice, not theatere. If you have any suggestions or information about any programs, please reply!
Thanks.

I have no idea if the following camps deal with voice, but I do know they have focuses on musical performance...and it seems like you're in the midwest, so they should be close??

-Blue Lake
-Interlochen
-Foster
-Tanglewood

I can't tell you anything about them, just that kids in All-State and YSOs have attended.

Interlochen has an advanced vocal summer intsitute

The BU Tanglewood Institute has a vocal program: http://www.bu.edu/cfa/music/tanglewood/vocal.htm.

letters have been mailed out for tanglewood already. i should know. i got rejected.

Hey there,
Yeah, a lot of deadlines have past for summer programs, so I'd say you'd be safe with CMU and Northwestern. (In my totally bias opinion, I'm going to CMU this summer, so I'd say apply so that you can come with me for voice only because I don't know of anyone on here that isn't going for musical theater lol)
Eastman School of Music has a great 3 week program that I attended last year, but I don't know if that deadline has past. BUTI has also past because I got rejected as well lol
Good luck, and if you need anything else, feel free to let me know. It's nice to find someone interested in just the voice, and not musical theater

bump

I'm looking for the exact same type of program as the OP was (classical voice, no theatre, summer after sophomore year) for the summer of 2008. I want to find a program that's rigorous and at an advanced level.

Does anyone have any opinions on which program could best fit that description? Right now, I'm planning on applying to the Northwestern program. Has anyone here been there before? How was your experience?

Thanks for any and all help. :)

(I realize it's really early in the year to be looking for summer programs, but I have to find a program soon so that I can apply for a local scholarship that would cover the expenses.)

Definitely check out BUTI: www.bu.edu/tanglewood.

Also try Boston Conservatory's summer program: http://www.bostonconservatory.edu/programs/summer_choral.html

Northwestern's NHSMI is awesome, my sister went and loved it. I second Interlochen, a lot of my friends have done it and say it's incredible. And Tanglewood is VERY professional and intense, but worth it. Also check and see if the Aspen Music festival has a summer program for high school students in voice...I know they do in violin...
