I just got accepted ED and am very excited to be joining the tribe. I currently like in NOVA and often go into DC for concerts (e.g. at the 9:30 club). This may be a hopeless endeavor, but I would like to know the names of good locations to go to concerts around Williamsburg.

The large Concert tours primarily go through Hampton and Norfolk which are 20 and 45 mins away. Newport News may have a location as well but I’m unsure. As for the Burg, unless its happening at Busch Gradens theres not going to be anything or anyone big coming through. Things may have changed since I lived in HR, but thats what I remember.

Welcome to the the Tribe!
I’m also from NOVA and used to go into DC for concerts (9:30, Black Cat). There is nothing in Williamsburg as far as music goes (or, well, anything else, to be quite honest haha). If you want to go to concerts you’ll need to make friends with an upperclassman who has a car and likes similar music, so you can go to Richmond or Norfolk.

There is no music scene in Williamsburg. There were actually disputes in years past between W&M and the surrounding community because outdoor concerts were “too loud” for the seniors living in the area. Be prepared to go to Richmond/Norfolk/Hampton/DC/anywhere else for good music.

You have, at best, one decent concert to which to look forward per year at W&M. The biggest names I can think of that have played at W&M in the past few years are My Chemical Romance and The Roots.

I guess they have Fridays at 5, but you will never have heard of any of the bands that play there, and none of them is particularly good.

There are concerts on campus at the Lake Matoaka Amphitheater primarily during the spring and summer.

You can go to the NORVA, in Norfolk, about 45 miles one way; or you can go to Richmond; the National in Richmond is comparable to the 930 Club.

W&M operates a coffeehouse on the edge of campus called the Meridian. It’s entirely run by student volunteers and has concerts generally weekly throughout the semester.

Performers are generally about 1/3 student bands and 2/3 out of town bands, usually fairly local (Virginia, D.C., Maryland area). The highest profile band that played last semester was The Suzan, a band from Japan ([The Suzan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](The Suzan - Wikipedia)).

Other than Fridays at 5 and the one or two concerts AMP throws a semester, that’s your best bet. Shows are $2 - $3 and a lot of fun.

Thanks for all the info :)
