Music Scholarships for non-music majors

What colleges offer music scholarships for non-music majors? I love singing but I don’t want to make it my career. What colleges offer scholarships for singing in one of the ensembles?

There are lots. Finding them requires research on your part for the particular schools you might be interested in. You can Google each school’s website for them. Off the top of my head (because we have researched this topic), Liberal Arts Colleges like Lewis & Clark, Beloit, College of Wooster, University of Puget Sound have them. I have no idea about larger universities because my kids haven’t considered them.

I’m an Artist Scholar at the University of Richmond, which is a full tuition scholarship (in my case, for music). My scholarship requires me to minor in music (4 classes total plus ensemble/lessons), but there are smaller department scholarships that don’t have that requirement.

Similar experience to 1518mom, lots of a schools offer music or arts scholarships. In our research in east coast and Midwest LACs, we found that Knox, Wooster and Denison offer additional scholarships which can be stacked on top of the colleges’ merit awards. They were typically $4-7,000 a year. Some schools waive the fee for private lessons when a student participates in an ensemble – I don’t know if those policies apply for voice.

Identify the schools, or types of schools you are interested in, and then spend time on their websites researching merit awards. Good luck!
