Music Student Unsure What to Do

I am currently a junior Voice Performance student at Indiana University, one of the best voice programs in the country. However, I have become increasingly miserable here over the past 8 months or so. I am performing well and have been cast in several operas, but I have lost interest in music as a major. Unfortunately, though I am smart and have decent SAT scores and GPA from high school, the bulk of my courses at the university level have been in music.

I am considering transferring elsewhere and studying something arts and science related. I am originally from the NJ/NY area and lived in Manhattan for several years, so naturally I would like to apply to NYU. I am interested in the social and cultural analysis programs there, but I am also thinking of applying to Boston University, Northwestern, and some others. Here is some basic information on my education:

I don't know if I am taking a stab in the dark by applying to schools such as NYU. I could easily stay at IU and transfer to another department or program and continue taking voice lessons with my teacher, but I don't know whether I could stay in Indiana and still be happy. I would like to be in a city so I can continue to study music privately.

Does anybody have any suggestions of where else I might look to study? It doesn't even need to be somewhere as prestigious as NYU. I am open to suggestions. I know I have the aptitude to study at NYU or BU, but I don't know if I have the academic criteria to prove it to an admissions commitee. Thank you.
