Can anybody describe the musical studies major at Oberlin a little bit for me? I read the description on the website already but any further clarification would be great, too! Also, is it easy to double Musical Studies with another major, in my case Computer Science?
“Musical studies” is just the name that Oberlin gives to their non-conservatory music major.
From their website: “Our courses permit interested students to double major and, with careful planning, many pair musical studies with other majors in the arts and sciences division— politics, cinema studies, or theater and dance, for example.” Sounds like it wouldn’t be too difficult.
I’m also interested in hearing more about this program. Do you musical studies majors benefit from the presence of the conservatory, or find themselves having to compete with conservatory students for spots in classes, performance opportunities, teachers, etc.?
